Baby's First Photo

First Photo! :)  Taken April 21, 2005 at about 9 weeks gestation.

Baby waved hello at mom (okay, so maybe he or she was squirming from the ultrasound waves), and his or her heart was readily visible as a flash of light.

How We Found Out We Were Pregnant...

On April 4, 2005, I took a home pregnancy test. I didn't expect to be expecting, but many female friends were certain I was pregnant. I was certain I was not...just the after-effects of food poisoning, I told them.

To end their good-natured pregnancy jokes, I bought a cheap home test. Imagine my shock when it read positive. I rushed to my hubby, showed him the test, and said that we needed to go buy a more expensive test to make sure this one was correct. (I've since learned that false-positives almost never happen, unless you're on fertility drugs.) He was giddy, and we bought the most expensive pregnancy test we could find. The results seemed inconclusive to me, so I took a third test...It also seemed dubious. I finally called the manufacturer of the test, and they confirmed that all three were indeed positive. We were both elated.

We didn't keep our secret for any length of time, either. We called the grandparents and aunts and uncles right away. The reaction was one of disbelief, then joy. As my father said, "Well, that took long enough!"

"Miracles are a retelling in small letters

of the very same story

which is written across the whole world in letters

too large for some of us to see."

C. S. Lewis
